Andante festivo for string orchestra is among the last works Sibelius prepared for publication. The original version for string quartet in 1922, but in 1938 he arranged the work for string orchestra and timpani ad lib. The string orchestra version was premiered on January 1, 1939 in a live broadcast from Helsinki, celebrating the New York World Fair.
