Den västnyländske veterinären och amatörfotografen Bernhard Åströms (1884-1959) fotografier omspänner nästan ett halvt sekel. Kameran blev redan i tidiga år Åströms ständiga följeslagare. Han både iakttog och deltog när han dokumenterade sin vardag, stilsäkert och med teknisk noggrannhet. Bland motiven finns allt från porträtt, djur och veterinärsysslor till biltävlingar, flygplan och skärgårdsliv. Åströms motivval är ofta överraskande och fångar ögonblick av lektfullhet och allvar. Fotografierna är ett urval ur Åströms stora samling i Svenska litteratursällskapets arkiv.
