Einojuhani Rautavaara's popular Cantus Arcticus - concerto for birds and orchestra - is a moder classic that has thrilled audiences since the 1970s. Peter Lönnqvist's transcription for birds and piano is idiomatic, challenging and ear-opening version of the work. The transcription successfully captures the essence of Rautavaara's musical language, harmonies, melancholy and solemnity. For the birds' singing, an amplified sound system is required for a performance of this work.
