Neli eesti hällilaulu (Four Estonian Lullabies) - Mixed choir

Veljo Tormis presents four traditional Estonian lullabies arranged for mixed choir, emphasizing North Estonian runo melodies.
Suitable for: For those interested in mixed choir music and Estonian folk tradition.
Veljo Tormis' arrangements for traditional SATB mixed choir cannot be treated as a whole. They should rather be taken as single examples of old Estonian lullabies. The source material derives from the anthology "Estonian Folk Songs with Melodies III" compiled by Herbert Tampere. North-Estonian "runo" tunes dominate this cycle. The South-Estonian cantilena is presented only in the Song No. 2, and only as a mere one-phrase melody.
Movements:
1. Laulan lapsele (I sing for my child)
2. Marjal aega magada (It's time for the Little Berry to Slee'p)
3. Lase kiik käia! (Let the cradle swing)
4.Äiutus (Lulling)
