År 1919, när republiken var ung, grundade Finlands svenska författare en förening för intressebevakning och socialt umgänge. Författarens och litteraturens villkor i samhället har omdefinierats flera gånger i föreningens och Finlands historia, men många frågor är fortfarande aktuella. Till dem hör författarnas försörjning och debatten om upphovsrätt, relationen mellan kulturpolitik och marknadskrafter, liksom den svenska litteraturens betydelse och överlevnad i Finland.
