Taipalsaari - unohdettu lentokenttä (lentotukikohta)
Kenttä valmistui talvisodan jälkeen kesällä 1940. Kesän 1944 ratkaisutaistelujen aikana kentällä toimi Hävittäjälentolaivue 34, Luukkasen Messerschmitt-laivue. Kirjassa kerrotaan erityisesti tämän laivueen toiminnasta Taipalsaarella. Mukaan on liitetty laivueen komentajan, majuri Eino Luukkasen laatima toimintakertomus.
Suomen pölytyslentojen historia alkoi Taipalsaaren kentältä 1950-luvun lopussa. Lappeenrannan Ilmailuyhdistys järjesti kentällä purjelentoleirejä vuoteen 1975 saakka. Kenttä on osa Suomen ilmailuhistoriaa ja Taipalsaaren kotiseutuhistoriaa.
Taipalsaari - forgotten airfield (air base)
The airfield was completed after the Winter War in the summer 1940. In 1944, during the so-called decisive battles 34 Fighter Squadron, Luukkanen's Messerschmitt Squadron, operated from there. Especially the operations of this Squadron are described in this book. The report written by Squadron Commander, Major Eino Luukkanen is enclosed.
The first aerial dustings in Finland were organized at Taipalsaari airfield in the late 1950's. The Aero Club of Lappeenranta arranged glider camps there until 1975. The airfield is a part of Finnish aviation history and local history of the Taipalsaari region.
