A magical city, inspiring fellow artists, the glow of companionship! Mathias Withoos (1627–1703) travelled to Rome and became a member of the Bentvueghels group, a community of Dutch artists. The young artists, from poets to painters, celebrated and worked together. Rome left a lasting impression on Withoos's art. Even after returning home, he continued to return to ancient landscapes and garden moods in his works.
