Santeri Levas : Jean Sibelius : a personal portrait

In 1938 the author was appointed secretary to Jean Sibelius and worked for him for nearly twenty years until the death of the composer in 1957. During this period Santeri Levas made notes about his conversations with his employer and about life in all its aspects at Ainola, the home of the master. Between 1957 and 1960 Levas published a large biography in two volumes based on the material he had collected during two decades. Levas has written this book specially for non-Finnish readers; he has brought together the most important and interesting material from his previous works, articles and radio lectures about Sibelius. Thus it is much more than an account of twenty years in the life of a great man.
