Through the ages, dolls have been cast in a wide variety of roles, from playmates and therapists to stage actors and objects of art. Doll-making is a natural combination of art and handicraft, requiring the skills of sculptor, potter, seamstress, wigmaker, and shoemaker and knowledge of various special techniques.

This book presents new dolls by members of the Doll Artists of Finland Society. Most of the dolls were photographed in the century-old Kuokkala Manor in Jyväskylä, which was designed by Wivi Lönn. The idyllic pictures are complemented by passages from William Shakespeare’s classic plays. Welcome to the world of dreams!
